Odyssey Talent Management helps cut learnership intake admin
If you or your business are involved in any way in learnership intakes, you will understand the sheer volume of work they require. One of our Odyssey Talent Management clients, for example, runs an annual learnership for 60 people. Each year the company receives roughly 4 500 applications from around the country.
The company operates in the field of phlebotomy, or blood collection and analysis, which is a highly specialised field. The traditional recruitment and selection process for phlebotomy learners is a tedious, highly labour-intensive task. Facilitators spend many hours on the process to ensure the best applicants are selected, making it difficult for them to manage their primary roles effectively.
The solution
Our phlebotomy client recently introduced a new process that uses the Odyssey Talent Management system as an initial sifting tool, together with other psychometric tools, to reduce the labour-intensity of the process. By automating the sifting process the company was able to save close to 1 200 hours on recruitment and selection for the learnership programme compared to the previous intake.
The implementation of these assessments reduced the amount of hours spent not only on screening candidates telephonically and face-to-face, but also cut down on time spent administering assessment tools in person. In addition, the pool of prospective candidates was vastly reduced and carried far more potential.
Through adjusting the process and including Odyssey’s assessment battery (among other changes) there was an overall saving of 1190 hours for the phlebotomy learnership team. This time saving allowed the facilitators to spend more time and focus on their primary roles. They also had more capacity to assist struggling learners and add value to the programme.
On the candidate side, the new process led to a significant increase in the discrimination between poor and best applicants, and a better possible fit to the role and programme.
The Odyssey talent assessment is a gamified, app-driven recruitment tool for candidate pools of any size. It accurately assesses individuals’ suitability for entry level roles across industries in developed or developing economies. The solution helps to identify high-potential employees (or candidate employees) regardless of education or literacy levels. Being a mobile application, assessments can be carried out in any location with access to the internet.
