Evalex-sponsored cyclists conquer the Knysna Bull
At Evalex we believe in giving back wherever we can. One of our charitable projects is the support of Knysna Sport Academy, which gives children from disadvantaged communities the opportunity to participate in a number of sports, including cricket, hockey, soccer, tag rugby, golf, cycling, tennis and athletics.
Evalex’s involvement in the academy is through sponsorship of the cycling development programme. Two members of the programme, Damon Terblanche and Waydon Koopman (pictured above), recently completed the three-stage Knysna Bull MTB Race through the forests around Knysna.
The race was just over 200km with more than 4 000m of climbing.
“It was a tough three days, but very rewarding to finish,” says Damon. “The climbs were brutal at times, but the beauty of the scenery in the area and the views over the Outeniqua Mountains were breath-taking.”
“I was truly grateful to be able to take part in this amazing event,” says Waydon. “Mountain biking is a big passion of mine as it brings people together from all walks of life. We are very lucky to have the support of Knysna Sport Academy and Evalex, who have made this possible for us.”
Evalex’s Pieter Bronkhorst says the sponsorship is a natural fit for the company, and has already delivered way beyond expectations.
“We are truly proud of Damon and Waydon for their achievement in the Knysna Bull race, as well as all the other cyclists in the academy who have performed well in other events such as the Karoo to Coast, Doctor Evil Classic, Tour de Plett, Seven Passes and Knysna Oyster Festival,” he says. “The team has developed in so many ways – physically, socially and emotionally. They have also acquired numerous skills, including discipline, leadership, rational competitiveness and a host of others.”
Evalex sponsors the academy with funds to purchase bicycles and gear for its riders. The academy’s Suleen Roberts says the Evalex sponsorship is highly appreciated.
“We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Evalex for all you do for our academy and riders,” she says. “Your assistance makes it possible for them to take part in events such as the Knysna Bull race and to look, feel and perform at their best.”
