Digital Leadership Assessment
Introduction
Digital disruption is the norm and organisations are under increasing pressure to deliver at a more efficient, fast and cost effective rate. The organisational context is shifting from task-focused and functional to purpose-driven and mission-led contexts. Organisations are also moving from hierarchical, functional and siloed structures to mission-led and cross-functional structures.
Historically, functional contexts required people to work in silos and manage by objectives. They were characterised by structure/hierarchy, reliance on processes, governance, compliance and sign-off as well as ample risk management practices. Mission-led contexts require leaders to work in cross-functional, multi-disciplinary teams and flatter hierarchies where they are required to shape thinking and make decisions constantly, adapt to constant ambiguity, uncertainty and change, and exhibit true collaboration by connecting resources for skill and need. These shifts demand that today’s leaders build stronger digital fluency leadership capabilities.
By considering how working contexts are evolving, it is evident that digital leadership is not only about being technologically savvy. It is the application of a new mindset that enables organisations and leaders to leverage new technologies to their fullest potential.
In order to effectively lead their teams, leaders need to show up differently. Leaders require a unique set of capabilities and behaviours to navigate this new complexity. Leaders need to demonstrate capability to facilitate the next level of value creation for organisations in a digitally disrupted world by connecting people and enabling innovation.
Introducing the Evalex Digital Leadership Assessment
Based on extensive research and in collaboration with our clients and partners, Evalex has identified that in order to navigate the digital landscape successfully, leaders need to be able to demonstrate the capability to connect people and enable innovation. This philosophy forms the basis of our Evalex Digital Leadership Assessment. The assessment is built on a competency framework which provides a ‘fit’ based on a psychometric analysis of a leader’s personality, work styles and values to connect people through collaboration and integration, the management of conflict, influence and emotional awareness. Furthermore, the assessment seeks to understand a person’s ‘fit’ towards enabling innovation through dealing with ambiguity, a focus on innovation, resilience to cope with an ever-changing environment and quick learning agility.
This information is then used to plot a leader’s low, moderate or high capability to connect people and enable innovation.
The assessment can be used to identify digital capabilities for leaders as well as non-leaders (individual contributors or specialists) and this can be done on an individual or a group basis. Furthermore, the assessment is highly customisable based on a client’s specific requirements. Elements of cognitive ability and business knowledge can be incorporated into the analysis.
